I love working with glass because it creates unique pieces of jewellery every time a new piece is made, to me this means that no one will ever be wearing the exact same piece of jewellery that you are. In today's world of mass marketed products having something that is hand made and unique to you makes it special, especially something as personal as jewellery.
The inspiration for the 'After Midnight' collection was from the glass pieces themselves. Every piece of glass jewellery has a beautiful texture and fluidity. Therefore I wanted to make glass the main element of my first collection. My aim was to create fashion jewelry, particularly neck pieces and earrings that could be worn every day in any situation. Whether it be for a night out with friends, lunch with the family or in the workplace you can feel confident and bold in wearing these pieces of glass jewellery.
The glass discs used in the current collection are created using the 'Patte De Viere' technique combined with a couple of personal touches and techniques to create the finished product. The glass used is high quality art glass and it is manufactured in Portland, Oregon. Once the glass has been fired I combine the discs with light aluminium chain and beads so the pieces aren't too weighty. Meaning that you can wear your glass jewellery without it being on your mind or in your way. Even though the glass and aluminium are light weight they aren't as fragile as you might think, so don't worry about your piece of unique jewellery coming to an untimely end.
Another benefit of Glass as a material is the recycable nature of it. Kashen Jewellery is proud to be green, pieces that don't quite live up to my exacting standards are recycled until they are ready for the public. Glass can be recycled over and over again with out affecting it's quality when using this technique, where as other materials would just go to waste. Find out more about my hand made jewellery.
'After Midnight' mainly consists of glass pieces that are black in colour, hence the collection name. However there are other colours available as well, including Orange, Purple, Light Purple and Salmon. If you want to contact me with specific colour requests for example bridal jewelry (for bridesmaids or as gifts) just want something even more bespoke to you feel free to and I will see what can be done. Made to order jewellery will take a little longer to arrive due to obvious reasons.
